February 23, 1945 was the date the iconic photograph by Joe Rosenthal was taken. The photo of six Marines hoisting up the heavy flag pole would become the most reproduced photograph in history.

It’s a fascinating and quick look at how Rosenthal’s famous picture inspired a similar Soviet picture taken in Berlin.
